Installation Notes Workstation system supports 667/800MHz ECC Registered Fully Buffered DIMMs (FB-DIMMs) DDR2 240-Pin memory max up to 64GB (using 8 DIMMs standard sockets) or max up to 128GB (using four memory riser cards with four slots each (maximum of 16 DIMMs). Memory must be installed in matched pairs of the same rank for Dual Channel mode or in group of four for Quad Channel mode. NOTES: * DDR2 667MHz and 800MHz DIMMs cannot be mixed in the same system. DDR2 667MHz FB DIMMs cannot be used with 1600MHz Front Side Bus (FSB) processors. DDR2 800MHz FB DIMMs must be used only with 1600MHz Front Sided Bus (FSB) processors. For best performance, load the largest DIMM pairs in the black slots. If using only one DIMM, install in socket 1 (bottom DIMM slot when rear inputs/outputs of motherboard are facing left). If using 2 DIMMs, install in sockets 1 & 5, matched by size and type. For more than two DIMMs, pairs MUST be matched by size and type in sockets 1 and 3, 5 and 7, 2 and 4, and 6 and 8; this may require moving the DIMM in socket 5 to socket 3. To utilize the maximum configurations, this system will need a 64-bit operating system. Please refer to the HP Service and Technical Reference Guide for further detail memory installation instructions.
